"What if every time you searched the Internet, money went to your favorite charity?..."

"That's what GoodSearch.com does. It's a search engine just like you're used to (it's powered by Yahoo so you get the same high-quality search results you're used to), but the first time you go on the site, you designate your favorite charity or school. Then every time you search, money will go to that organization (without you ever spending a dime!)."

How do I raise money for the Nevada Neuroscience Foundation through GoodSearch?

Search engines generate billions of dollars in revenue from advertisers each year. GoodSearch has developed a way to direct some of that money to the causes you care about most. It's easy ... every time you search the Internet at GoodSearch.com, your charity or school earns money and the more you search, the more they make. Add up the money generated from all your searches and those done by the millions of other people who we hope will use GoodSearch, and you can see how using GoodSearch and selecting the Nevada Neuroscience Foundation (NNF) as your charity can make a real difference to NNF or the charity you choose.

How does it work?

  • On the GoodSearch homepage, choose the Nevada Neuroscience Foundation from thousands of organizations or add your favorite cause to the GoodSearch list.
  • Search the Internet just like you normally would - the site is powered by Yahoo!, so you'll get the same high-quality search results you're accustomed to.
  • Fifty percent of the revenue generated from advertisers is shared with NNF or the charity, school or nonprofit organization of your choosing.

Are the search results going to be as good as the search engine I am using now?

Absolutely. GoodSearch.com is powered by Yahoo! so you'll get the same high-quality search results that you're currently used to - or better!

How much money could this generate for NNF, my charity or school?

GoodSearch estimates that each search will generate approximately $0.01 for the designated charity or school. If you think about how many times you searched the Internet each year, and then add in all the searches from the supporters of your organization, it quickly adds up! Here's an example of how much your organization can earn:

Charity or School           Size Number of Supporters Average Searches         Per Day Estimated Revenue/Year
Small 100 2 $730
Medium 1,000 2 $7,300
Large 10,000 2 $73,000

The sky is the limit. The more people use GoodSearch, the more money will be directed towards causes. There is no cap on how much money GoodSearch will direct to charities.

Where does the money come from?

Search engines make most of their money from companies that pay an advertising fee when users click on links during a search. GoodSearch has developed a patent-pending way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to charities. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support.

Do the users ever have to pay anything?

No. That's the whole point of GoodSearch! Using this search engine - and thereby generating money for your favorite cause - is free. We know that most people, like us, would love to be able to give limitless amounts of money to every charity they support, but of course cannot. Some have given all they can for now; others have the desire to help, but no funds. GoodSearch now provides all Internet users with an easy way to donate to their favorite charities without ever having to tap into their own finances.

What percentage of revenue goes to the charities and schools?

GoodSearch is a company with a unique social mission, which involves giving as much money back to charity as possible while remaining a self-sustaining business. Our goal is to direct a minimum of 50 percent of revenues to the designated causes and increase this percentage as the company matures (typically, socially aware companies donate anywhere from 1 percent to 20 percent).

Other examples of companies in the category of "social entrepreneurship" include Newman's Own, Ben & Jerry's and the Body Shop.

What if I do not select a charity or school?

Revenue raised by users who do not designate a specific charity will be used to fund operations.

How can I track the number of searches and revenue generated for my charity or school?

Once you designate and verify your favorite organization, click on the "amount raised" button. Remember, the money is earned in pennies, but those pennies can quickly add up to hundreds and thousands of dollars the more people search on behalf of any particular organization!

How can I see a list of all the charities in the database?

GoodSearch doesn't yet have a good way to display the thousands of nonprofits that are working with it though the display is being worked on. In the meantime, please search for the organization you would like to support by entering it into the "I'm Supporting" box on our homepage. If the organization is not yet in the GoodSearch system, please feel free to submit its information by clicking on the "Add a New Charity" link on our homepage.

What stops people from clicking just to raise money for their charity? What is meant by fraudulent searching?

GoodSearch asks that you use its site honestly. As long as you use GoodSearch just as you would any other search engine, it's never a problem.

Fraudulent searching includes, but is not limited to, repeated manual clicks, the use of use of robots or other automated query tools, etc. This will result in the charity being de-listed.

How can I make it so my NNF or my charity is already chosen each time I go to GoodSearch?

If your computer allows cookies, the last cause you designated will remain chosen.

Can users donate to more than one cause?

Yes, of course. Users can donate to as many causes as they'd like. To make giving back as easy as possible, GoodSearch has designed its site so that each time a user visits GoodSearch, their "I'm Supporting" selection will remain the same as the last time they used the search engine. However, users can support as many causes as they'd like by just changing the charity or school selected on the GoodSearch homepage each time they conduct a new search. Users can change the designated organization by clicking on "clear selection" and then typing in the name of the new organization.

Why is GoodSearch especially relevant to charities today?

GoodSearch can not only help fund organizations focused on recent major disasters including 9/11, the Indian Ocean tsunami and now Hurricane Katrina, but it is invaluable to the hundreds of thousands of smaller causes that have a hard time raising funds to begin with and often see further shortages in contributions due to the overwhelming support for disaster relief.

In addition to this added cash, smaller charities and schools benefit from the increased awareness and visibility they can get by being listed with GoodSearch or featured as the site's "Charity of the Day" on its home page.
